High Court on Officers : The Uttarakhand High Court, headed by Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal, has issued an order for the removal of Sunil Kumar Joshi from his position as Vice-Chancellor of Ayurvedic University. The court deemed his appointment as a violation of the rules governing the position. The decision was made after a petition filed by Vinod Kumar Chauhan, a resident of Haridwar, alleging illegal appointment and financial irregularities by Joshi. The petitioner argued that Joshi lacked the required qualifications and experience for the role, and further accused him of misusing his authority and making decisions contrary to government directives.
Lokayukta, The High Court of Uttarakhand has ordered the government to appoint a Lokayukta within a specified time frame. The court has also prohibited any expenditure until the appointment is made. Currently, the Lokayukta Institute in Uttarakhand is spending around two to three crore rupees annually without a Lokayukta. A petition was filed by a resident named Joshi, and the next hearing is scheduled for August 10. The petitioner highlighted the lack of an independent agency to investigate corruption in the state. Promises made by political parties regarding the appointment of a Lokayukta to tackle corruption remain unfulfilled.
