A division bench of Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal has issued major orders to solve the problem of traffic jam in Nainital during the tourist season.
According to the order issued to the government, all the pedal rickshaws plying on the mall road of the city should be removed within two weeks and replaced by increasing the number of e-rickshaws from the present 11 to at least 50 and allocating them if there are more candidates to take them. It has been asked to do through lottery. After this order, the pedal rickshaws which used to run till their ‘coin’ and were considered a separate identity of Nainital will become history. The next hearing of the case will be in August.

The Governor of Uttarakhand, retired Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh held a meeting with the office bearers of Hotel Association Nainital at Nainital Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. In the meeting, the Governor discussed in detail with the officials the challenges related to facilities and infrastructure development for tourists in Nainital and received their suggestions.
